Summer sleepwear comes down to two things. Breathability. Easy care.
Buyers in hot climates don’t just glance at a pajama set once. They run it through a hot washer three times. Then they decide. Weight and fibre are what really matter. The print is just the hook.
When you’re putting together a summer line, two calls drive everything. Fabric weight. Fibre choice. The rest is detail work.
Summer Fabrics Behave Differently
Winter fabric doesn’t cut it in summer. Thick cotton jersey just traps heat. Satin gets slippery when you sweat. Colours wash out fast under poolside sun and chlorine.
People in hot places wear sleepwear two or three times before washing. So the fabric has to survive that cycle. No pilling. No shrinking. No turning see-through.
Light fabrics in pale colours? They can go sheer in bright light. And shorts sets stress out at the waistband. You’ll see those issues in the first week of wear, not in the sample room.
Weight and Fibre
Weight equals hand feel. Fibre equals comfort and care instructions. Mess up either one and customers send stuff back by week two.
Bamboo lyocell is light and drapes nicely. Feels cool on skin. Wicks moisture. Huge plus in humid heat where cotton just stays wet.
Cotton voile and lawn are the budget-friendly picks. They breathe well. Prints look sharp on them. Just make sure the fabric is pre-shrunk or you’ll get surprises after wash one.
Cotton muslin and gauze have this airy, textured feel. The loose weave lets air circulate. Great for baggy cuts and loungewear shapes. Delicate prints look softer on this fabric too.
Modal and modal-linen blends sit somewhere between cotton and lyocell. They don’t wrinkle up in a suitcase. Perfect for travel shops and hotel boutiques.
Light cotton jersey works for those cooler summer evenings. It stretches. Bounces back. Takes a family wash cycle no problem.
| ผ้า | Feel in heat | การดูแล | เหมาะที่สุดสำหรับ |
| ไลโอเซลล์ไม้ไผ่ | Cool, smooth, moisture-wicking | Gentle cold wash | Premium summer sets, humid markets |
| Cotton voile or lawn | Light, crisp, breathable | ซักเครื่องได้ง่าย | Value programs, strong prints |
| Cotton muslin or gauze | Airy, textured, soft | ซักเครื่องได้ง่าย | Loose lounge cuts, resort lines |
| Modal or modal-linen | Smooth, crease-resistant | ซักเครื่องได้ง่าย | Travel retail, gift shops |
| Light cotton jersey | Soft, slight stretch | ซักเครื่องได้ง่าย | Cooler nights, family sets |
What to Test Before Bulk
You don’t know if a summer line will work until samples pass inspection. Run these four checks and you’ll catch most issues.
- Pre-shrunk fabric should shrink no more than 5%. Shorts sets show shrink problems first.
- Hold the fabric up to a light. Light colours at light weights can end up see-through on real bodies.
- Colour fastness. Test against sun and chlorine. Untreated fabric fades fast poolside.
- Elastic recovery. Waistbands and cuffs need to snap back after five washes. Not two.
Get a finished sample, not just a fabric swatch. Wash it once. Then approve.
Sizes, Sets and Assortment Planning
Summer lines usually come in two flavours. Short-sleeve top plus shorts. Or sleeveless top plus long pants for AC’d nights.
Sizing follows your standard pajama range. But you still need to grade on an actual sample set. Miss one size and the whole run looks broken.
Ratio matters more than how many styles you offer. Most summer programs keep it tight. Two or three solids. One or two prints. Solids get reordered. Prints bring in the seasonal buzz.
What colours you pick depends on where you’re selling. White, sand, pale grey move in hot climates. Darker colours work in cities. Prints are your play for resorts and gift shops.
Customization and Private Label
Private label takes a basic summer set and makes it yours. Here’s what you can do:
- Printed fabric or chest and pocket prints
- Logo embroidery on placket, cuff, or pocket
- Woven labels, care labels, hangtags
- Retail packaging: fabric bags, insert cards, mailer boxes
Minimum order is 100 sets per design. Samples first. Bulk after approval.
The Ordering Window for Summer
Southern hemisphere summer runs December to February. Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Brazil — they all buy to that calendar.
Place orders early. Samples first, then production, then shipping. Sea freight takes 30 to 45 days. Air freight 15 to 20 days. Express 7 to 10 days.
Printing method changes timing. Pigment prints turn around in one to two weeks. Reactive prints need more time — several weeks. Both need sample approval before going bulk.
Northern hemisphere summer runs the other way. Order in winter for spring delivery.
