The waterproof layer is the part that has to hold up, and on this mat it is bonded to the knit rather than laid behind it, so it flexes where the bed flexes instead of cracking along the fold lines within a season. The surface itself is knitted cotton, 200 thread count on a 40-count construction – the reason a waterproof mat can still be slept on, because cotton moves moisture away from skin rather than sealing it in. It is machine washable, which is what keeps a waterproof pad in use rather than in a cupboard, and it is built to a mattress height of 9 to 14 inches so it still reaches around a deep mattress and a topper. Bought for the home, for hotels and for hospitals, where a waterproof layer is a requirement rather than a preference – and where the pad has to come back from the laundry looking the way it went in. A printed finish on a luxury-styled mat means the covering can stay on show on a guest bed or a hospital bed rather than being hidden under a duvet. Sizes run Twin, Full, Queen and King plus custom, against a mattress height of 9 to 14 inches, and seven colours are held in stock with custom colour from 100 pieces, so a room scheme can be matched rather than settled for.
– Machine washable, cold or warm, on a normal cycle. This is the one care instruction the pad is actually sold on.
– Wash it separately from towels and anything with zips; the waterproof backing dislikes being abraded against hardware.
– A mild detergent is enough. Skip bleach, which degrades the waterproof membrane from the inside where you cannot see it going.
– No fabric softener. It leaves a film that stops the cotton absorbing, which is half of what makes the pad comfortable.
– Tumble dry low, or line dry. High heat is what delaminates a bonded backing, and once it separates the pad is finished.
– Take it out of the dryer slightly damp and put it straight back on the bed; a pad is easier to fit before it stiffens.
– Do not iron. Heat seals are what hold the waterproof layer in place.
– Wash before first use if the pad is going onto a child’s or a patient’s bed.
– Check the seams once a season. A split seam is what turns a waterproof pad into a wet mattress.
Colour can be customised from 100 pieces, and samples can be customised for quality checking, with a free colour card supplied on request. Orders start at 100 pieces and production runs about 31 days for quantities up to 300 pieces, with larger volumes negotiated individually. Each mat packs at 45 x 35 x 10 cm at 1.5 kilograms. OEM service is the supply type on this pad, and orders are taken across minor, drawing-based, sample-based and full customization, so a buyer’s own label, colourway and packing can be built into the order rather than quoted as an afterthought.
