Silk Pajamas Care Guide

Follow these gentle care tips to preserve the softness, luster, and longevity of your silk pajamas:

1. Pre-Use Preparation

Give your new silk pajamas a gentle rinse before the first wear. This step removes any residual sizing agents or excess dye from the production process—enhancing the fabric’s natural smoothness for future use and helping the color retain its vibrancy without fading prematurely.

2. Detergent Guidelines

Never use chlorine bleach on silk pajamas—it will irreparably damage the delicate silk fibers, causing discoloration and weakening the fabric. Fabric softener is unnecessary (and potentially harmful) for silk, as it can coat the fibers and dull their natural sheen. Opt for a mild, pH-neutral detergent specifically formulated for silk or delicate fabrics; it’s gentle on the fibers and helps maintain the pajamas’ luxurious quality.

3. Washing & Drying Basics

Wash the pajamas in cool or lukewarm water (avoid room-temperature water that’s too warm, as heat can damage silk). Never soak silk in hot water, use harsh dry-cleaning chemicals, or scrub vigorously when hand-washing—gentle handling is key to preventing fiber damage.
If using a washing machine, place the pajamas in a mesh laundry bag and select the delicate/gentle cycle; skip high-speed spin settings to avoid stretching or tangling the silk.
After washing, lay the pajamas flat on a clean towel to gently press out excess water (do not wring or twist, as this can warp the fabric). Hang them in a breezy, shaded area to air dry—keep them out of direct sunlight, which can fade silk and break down its fibers.
Dryers are not recommended for silk, but if unavoidable, use the lowest heat setting (below 30°C) for a very short time. Iron only if needed, using a low heat setting with a pressing cloth between the iron and silk to avoid scorching or shine marks.

4. Drying & Storage Hacks

Always lay silk pajamas flat to dry to maintain their shape. Never pull or stretch them while damp, as silk is fragile when wet and prone to permanent deformation. When storing, fold the pajamas neatly (avoid hanging for long periods, as silk can stretch under its own weight) and place them in a dark, dry, well-ventilated space—preferably in a breathable fabric bag. This prevents mold growth, yellowing, and preserves the fabric’s luster.

5. Daily Care Reminder

Avoid hanging silk pajamas on sharp hooks or rough hangers. Silk is a delicate, smooth fabric that easily snags on sharp edges, and it absorbs a small amount of moisture—making it slightly heavier when damp and more susceptible to tearing if caught on rough surfaces. Handle with care to prevent snags or pulls.
